![]() Why Do Some British People Dislike Donald Trump?by bill - 2025-03-20 07:04:59 ( in education, news, politics, opinion) [php version] rebuildI had to read this message through my browser so it would translate it for me. Anyway, I mostly agree with Doug that the author is mostly wrong. Trump is rude and obnoxious, and I wish he had more class, but at least he occasionally speaks the truth, unlike 99% of politicians. He's a natural negotiator/manipulator and should not be taken at face value, a "crazy like a fox" quality that this "brilliant and witty" writer apparently missed. Trump has empathy for those in need, too, just not for criminals (unless they're his friends or controllers). He's completely wrong to support the megalomaniacal Israeli government, and the mad scientists in the vaccine industry, yet still better than anyone the Democrats would ever allow to run against him. On 3/19/2025 6:28 PM, Doug wrote: The writer is a complete moron. I came to this conclusion when he praised Obama so highly. Probably a communist which would explain why he likes Obama so much, a comrade. Maybe he's also a homosexual, like Obama, but just speculating. On Wednesday, March 19th, 2025 at 4:32 PM, someone wrote: [translated from English to Portuguese and back] "Why do some British people dislike Donald Trump?" Nate White, a brilliant and witty writer from England, wrote the following response: "A few things come to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities that the British traditionally appreciate. For example, he has no class, no charm, no credibility, no compassion, no intelligence, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honor, and no grace -- all qualities, curiously enough, with which his predecessor, Mr. Obama, you have been generously blessed. So for us, this stark contrast throws Trump's limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief. Besides, we like to laugh. And while Trump can be laughable, he has never said anything ironic, witty or even mildly amusing -- not once, ever. I'm not saying this rhetorically, I mean it literally: not once, not ever. And this fact is particularly disturbing to British sensibilities -- for us, a lack of humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it's a fact. He doesn't even seem to understand what a joke is -- his idea of a joke is a rude comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty. Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and never laughs; just sings or mocks. And, frighteningly, he doesn't just say crude, stupid insults -- he actually means them. Your mind is a simple, bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and instinctive meanness. There is never any underlying layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It's all superficial. Some Americans may see this as refreshingly straightforward. Well, we don't. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we are traditionally on the side of David, not Goliath. All our heroes are courageous underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither brave nor oppressed. He is the exact opposite of that. He's neither a spoiled rich kid nor a greedy fat cat. He's more of a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege. And worse, he is the most unforgivable thing for the British: a bully. That is, except when you're among bullies; then suddenly he turns into a whiny fellow. There are unspoken rules for these things -- the Queensberry rules of basic decency -- and he breaks them all. He punches downward -- what a gentleman should, would, could never do -- and every blow he lands is below the belt. He particularly enjoys kicking the vulnerable or voiceless -- and he kicks them when they are down. So the fact that a significant minority -- maybe 1/3 of Americans -- look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think, "Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy." is a source of confusion and no small amount of distress for the British people, given that: Americans are supposed to be nicer than we are, and most of them are. You don't need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot some flaws in a man. This last point is what especially confuses and puzzles the British people, and many other people too; your flaws seem very difficult to ignore. After all, it is impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him say a sentence or two, without staring deeply into the abyss. Transforms simplicity into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a sh-tty Shakespeare. Your flaws are fractal: even your flaws have flaws, and so on, ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or wickedness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W. Bush look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human failings -- he would be a Trump. And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein clutched large tufts of hair and cried out in anguish: 'My God... what... have I... created?' If being an idiot were a TV show, Trump would be a whole series." similar posts here ... and elsewhere
