"There is no mandatory retirement age, but you legally have to file for retirement on your 70th birthday, which will give you the maximum social security benefit for the rest of your life, based on how much you made prior to 70th birthday. But you don't have to actually retire, you can work your whole life, which is what the people in Congress do while collecting monthly social security checks. If you retire at 66, you get about 1/3 less per month for the rest of your life than 70. If you "early retire," you'll probably only get about $1000 a month for the rest of your life. -- anonymous"
