That's assuming everything goes as planned ... and it WILL. I believe in positive thinking (when I'm desperate, anyway, because it leads to positive actions, which lead to positive results, or at least your chances are better). I don't always practice it, but I try. It doesn't always work, but it never hurts. Kinda like that book "The Secret," only not quite so full of it. :) Yesterday, Elizabeth got mad at me again for some reason while it was my turn to entertain her as Tara was down the hall using the computer, emailing people, etc. Elizabeth's tantrums are steadily decreasing in length and ferocity. Anyway, she got mad, grabbed a plastic bag and started filling it up with her favorite toys. Then she realized she needed another bag, so she grabbed another one and filled that up. She put on her boots and sweater and dragged those bags up to the (locked) front door, saying something about going some place where they speak Russian. :) She got over it five minutes later, just in time for Tara to return. Later, during another one of my "shifts," after she wet her pants again, I helped her take a bath/shower combination. I'm not sure. Basically, she was playing in the water ... for 25 minutes! I figured "Why not?" It's not my water that she's wasting, and I really had no other plans for the afternoon. similar posts here ... and elsewhere
Comments (We enjoy free speech. Try not to offend, but feel free to be offended.)Just a thought but those baths are probably a real luxury to her since she's probably only gotten a quick sponge bath all her life. A suggestion, though, take it or leave it, would be that next time she wets herself, just sponge her off as best you can. That way maybe she'll learn that she can have a bath if she asks nicely or if it's time but not by wetting herself. I know Katie and Alan are waterhorses and love their baths. I am also a positive thinker and I KNOW you guys will get out of their on time. You have a lot of people thinking and praying for you so it's gonna happen! I have to commend you guys on keeping your sanity (most of the time!) with a 2 year old in a hotel room. I know that's incredibly hard even in the States. There just isn't much to do and it's not your stuff. Anyways, won't be long now! - Auntie Em, 2007-12-16 03:04:18 I'm counting the days until you return! I'm going to buy Elizabeth some bathtub paint (don't worry, just colored soap that will wash off) so she can draw on the tub while she takes a bath. With my boys, it reduced the amount of splashing. Can wait to see you guys! - Ronica, 2007-12-16 03:30:10 Leave your own comment:Here is the complete blog of the adoption experience in paperback form, Russian Adoption: From Nashville to Astrakhan and Back (PDF).
