He might make a great politician -- better than any Republican or Democrat, but that's a low bar -- but his claim to have invented email reminds me of Al Gore's claim to have invented the Internet.  Here's what Copilot Search says about it:

"Is Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai Really the Inventor of Email?

Dr. V. A. Shiva Ayyadurai has publicly claimed to have invented email as a teenager in 1978, creating a fully functional system with features like an inbox, outbox, folders, and address book for medical professionals at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)

https://vashiva.com/about-va-shiva-ayyadurai/. He says the U.S. Copyright Office granted him the first copyright for "EMAIL" in 1981–1982.

https://www.dremail.com/dr_email_inventor_history_of_email.asp. He has promoted this as a major achievement, even calling himself "Dr. E-Mail": https://www.dremail.com/dr_email_inventor_history_vashiva_biography.asp.

However, historians and technology experts widely dispute this claim. Email systems existed in rudimentary forms in the early 1970s, with the first known electronic mail messages sent over ARPANET in 1971–1972. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva_Ayyadurai. By the late 1970s, multiple researchers and institutions had developed and deployed email systems, so Ayyadurai's 1978 system was not the first of its kind. His account is considered by many to be a later invention story rather than a historical fact. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva_Ayyadurai.

Ayyadurai has sued media outlets that challenged his claim, and both cases were settled out of court. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva_Ayyadurai. While his system may have been one of the first user-friendly, network-wide email systems for a specific professional group, it did not mark the first email invention.

In summary:

Ayyadurai's claim: He invented email in 1978, with the first U.S. copyright for "EMAIL" in 1981–1982.

Historical consensus: Email existed earlier; his system was notable but not the first.

Status: His claim is not accepted as fact by mainstream technology history, though he continues to promote it publicly ."

If you hear him describe it, they big tech corporations refuse to allow anyone to think innovation happens from outside sources and private individuals. His system seems to have expanded what others came up with, like they were way more limited in scope and look nothing like what email looks like today. His was the first to be the comprehensive and modern form. Not much different than inventing an electric oven versus one that uses logs, or something like that.
