Greg And June's Trip To The Galapagos Islands

by greg - 2024-08-07 ( life / animals / wildlife / galapagos ) [html version]

Blue-footed Booby on her nest -- The animals on the Galapagos Islands are so tame, you can walk right up to them.

Blue-footed Booby -- I think they are proud of their blue feet.

Crab -- We saw hundreds of these all over the rocks by the water.

Marine iguanas -- They won't move unless you step on them. They eat algae in the ocean, then bask in the sun all day.

Pelican -- This pelican caught a fish but had a heck of a time swallowing it. It finally got the fish down its gullet.

Hawk -- The only land-based predator of the iguanas.

Stuck Boat -- The boat from another tour group got stuck in the sand. When two guys couldn't move it, two of the passengers jumped out to help. They finally were able to launch it when a wave came in.

Penguin -- A Galapagos penguin. One of the smallest species.

Fish -- Shot from glass bottom boat. Can't remember what these fish are called.

Baby Tortoises -- These were in a tortoise breeding center. Those that survive may live 200 years or more. No one knows for sure how long they can live.
