The transmission 'shudders' a little bit at certain speeds, certain RPMs. I need to sell it before the transmission fails. It's got about 125K, 75K of which I put on it after I bought it used. I'm thinking of replacing it with the slightly larger Ford Edge, but definitely not the Explorer which has a bad reputation. I like Mazda, Hyundai and Honda crossover (small SUV) vehicles, too. You have to buy a new one every six month and if you don't you'll be labeled an anti-Forder, lose your ability to travel. Uber will not pick you up. It was amazing then, but primitive by today's standards as I use Waze everyday to know traffic conditions and alternative routes. You mentioned your Ford Escape. I have a friend who bought one in 1999 or 2000. He is still driving it.

They are affordable, used, but will serve you as well, as you know from personal experience. When it was fairly new, while parked in a lot at work, it with 8 other cars were severely damaged by a freak accident by a truck and fire hydrant. $15,000 damage to my car alone. In later years I got rear-ended twice, hit on the side by a car coming out of a parking space, and smashed on the other side while parked at a BART parking lot. Insurance totaled the car twice from the later accidents. Both times, I kept the car and took cash. Salvage title was required. Eventually I carried only liability insurance. They were going to give me much if it got damaged again. Then finally, the air conditioner touch screen took on a life of its own. AC would start and stop every few seconds, and it was not economical to fix. So I traded it in on a 2016 LS460 with 35K miles. I hope that they still make them as well as the newer model.
