GMO Foods

by staff - 2010-03-01 ( life / health / food / science ) [html version]

Genetically-modified cotton is poisoning people in India. In this country, non-organic soybeans, corn and canola (most non-organic of these are GMO) are poisoning people. It's in corn chips and other products. They are making soybeans and corn that are "Round-up ready," which means, they have pesticide IN THE FOOD, which infects and GROWS in your intestines.

Here's how to avoid these things: nongmoshoppingguide.com

Since most of the world rejects these crops, the US & Canada are pushing them on their populations. Every president since Bush 1 (including Obama) has actively promoted GMO foods, making sure that the FDA doesn't have to test their safety.

"This is your one-stop-shop on how to eat non-GMO, what a non-GMO label means, the differences between non-GMO & organic, and how to avoid GMOs even when there's no label, and when you dine out."

Children Prefer Storybooks that Explain Why and How Things Happen

"Children have a never-ending curiosity about the world around them and frequently question how and why it works the way it does. Researchers have previously demonstrated that children are interested in causal information, but had not yet linked this to a real-world activity, such as reading. A new study finds that children prefer causally-rich storybooks, suggesting that such content may be more engaging and could help to increase children's interest in reading."

Boiling Water

by bill - 2020-07-26 ( education / science / water ) [html version]

A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before). I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he wanted to bring the water to a boil. When the timer shut the oven off, he removed the cup from the oven.

As he looked into the cup, he noted that the water was not boiling, but suddenly the water in the cup "blew up" into his face. The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his hand, but all the water had flown out into his face due to the build up of energy. His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face which may leave scarring.

He also may have lost partial sight in his left eye. While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending to him stated that this is a fairly common occurrence and water (alone) should never be heated in a microwave oven. If water is heated in this manner, something should be placed in the cup to diffuse the energy such as a wooden stir stick, tea bag, etc. (nothing metal).

It is however a much safer choice to boil the water in a tea kettle.

GENERAL ELECTRIC's RESPONSE:

Thanks for contacting us, I will be happy to assist you. The e-mail that you received is correct. Microwaved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the boiling point. They can actually get superheated and not bubble at all. The superheated liquid will bubble up out of the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into it.

To prevent this from happening and causing injury, do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup. After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds before moving it or adding anything into it.

Here is what our local science teacher had to say on the matter: "Thanks for the microwave warning. I have seen this happen before. It is caused by a phenomenon known as super heating. It can occur anytime water is heated and will particularly occur if the vessel that the water is heated in is new, or when heating a small amount of water (less than half a cup).

What happens is that the water heats faster than the vapor bubbles can form. If the cup is very new then it is unlikely to have small surface scratches inside it that provide a place for the bubbles to form. As the bubbles cannot form and release some of the heat that has built up, the liquid does not boil, and the liquid continues to heat up well past its boiling point.

What then usually happens is that the liquid is bumped or jarred, which is just enough of a shock to cause the bubbles to rapidly form and expel the hot liquid. The rapid formation of bubbles is also why a carbonated beverage spews when opened after having been shaken."

The Healthy Human Microbiome

by admin - 2021-02-24 ( education / science / biology ) [html version]

"Researchers have mapped the normal bacteria that live in and on the healthy human body. The accomplishment sets the stage for better understanding how bacterial communities affect human health and disease... The scientists found that more than 10,000 microbial species occupy the human body. They estimated that the microbiome provides more genes that contribute to human survival than the human genome itself provides (8 million vs. 22,000). [emphasis ours] Humans need bacterial genes to aid in basic processes such as digestion."

Microbiome Project Defines Normal Bacterial Makeup of the Body

"HMP researchers also reported that this plethora of microbes contribute more genes responsible for human survival than humans contribute. Where the human genome carries some 22,000 protein-coding genes, researchers estimate that the human microbiome contributes some 8 million unique protein-coding genes or 360 times more bacterial genes than human genes. [emphasis ours] This bacterial genomic contribution is critical for human survival. Genes carried by bacteria in the gastro-intestinal tract, for example, allow humans to digest foods and absorb nutrients that otherwise would be unavailable."

Scientists May Have Detected New Unknown Structure Deep in the Earth's Core

by admin - 2021-03-26 ( education / science / geology ) [html version]

"We've all been taught the same thing in school: the earth is made up of four layers – the crust, the mantle, the inner core, and the outer core. We've known this all along, and we probably haven't given it much thought the moment we left school.

In reality, the ground beneath us tells of tales before man walked the earth. It's filled with stories of history and of how the world came to be. We may have studied the earth for years, but so much has yet to be discovered. We've only scratched the layer of our home's history.

In the study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research, researchers have actually found new evidence for further stories deep within the earth's core. This could give us a better glimpse on the window to our past. While we assumed that the layer ended with the inner core, it seems as if our planet has another even deeper core within...."

Electric Car Facts

by steve - 2022-07-31 ( education / science / energy ) [html version]

Interesting factoids

"This machine [image lost] is required to move 500 tons of earth/ ore which will be refined into one lithium car battery. It burns 900-1000 gallons of fuel in a 12 hour shift.

Lithium is refined from ore using sulfuric acid. The proposed lithium mine at Thacker Pass is estimated to require up to 75 semi-truck loads of sulfuric acid a day! The acid does not turn into unicorn food like AOC believes.

A battery in an electric car, let's say an average Tesla, is made of 25 pounds of lithium, 60 pounds of nickel, 44 pounds of manganese, 30 pounds of cobalt, 200 pounds of copper, and 400 pounds of aluminum, steel, and plastic, etc... averaging 750-1,000 pounds of minerals, that had to be mined and processed into a battery that merely stores electricity..... Electricity which is generated by oil, gas, coal, nuclear, or water (and a tiny fraction of wind and solar)....

That is the truth about the lie of "green" energy.

There's nothing green about the green new deal. You people better learn how to vote or this nonsense will continue to flow down on top of you from the throne of government you put these people on."

New Physics Discovery Could Levitate Any Device via Ambient Pressure Magnetics

by bill - 2023-08-10 ( education / science / physics ) [html version]

"If a new discovery published by South Korean physicists on a pre-print server is proven through replication, it could be one of the most important discoveries in applicable physics. That's because the team believes they have discovered materials that act as room-temperature, ambient pressure superconductors. That's the physics term; the layman's term would be utopian..."

David Icke proven right by science

by steve - 2024-01-18 ( education / research ) [html version]

I'm pretty sure that the spike proteins and mRNA HAVE been Proved to be very involved. So, that makes me= wonder about Icke, who long ago was pushing UFO and "reptilian" theories. (No, I haven't looked at the video and might skin through it)

On Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 10:15:55 PM PST:

Excellent discussion about the real agenda and the means by which they are carrying it out. Spike proteins and messenger RNA was false information introduced by the scammers to get people to go down false paths and distract from the graphine.

Fascinating science

by steve - 2024-03-16 ( education / research ) [html version]

liberalism is a mental illness and mentally ill people can't make up their mind (No, they're on pins and needles, anxious to be TOLD what they need to believe)

On Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 04:24:13 PM PDT:

You must admit that it's amazing how science changes over time. Remember when it was complete heresy to say "covid" is just a flu back in 2020-2024? Now it's official that the CDC says something to that effect this week - treat it the same as the flu. Go ahead and get in line to give your apologies to me. Remember, trust the science because the same people who claim men can have babies are the ones who ARE the science and you better remember that they cannot be questioned.

Scientists find liquid water on Mars

by bill - 2024-08-13 ( education / science / astronomy / planets ) [html version]

"Scientists say they've discovered vast oceans of liquid water below the surface of Mars, which could hold the answer to whether life exists there. It may also make the planet more habitable for humans."

... you know, for when we do like Douglas Adams suggested in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and send all middle managers there. But why stop at middle managers? Send all corporate executives there!

Neil Degrasse Tyson Takes Pride in Communicating Science, then Explains that Chromosomes Don't Determine Your Sex

Is Psychiatry Fake Science?

by admin - 2024-11-19 ( life / health / mental ) [html version]
