One name, five books, a singular journey...by William Arthur Holmes
Temporary Insanity, Operation Detour, Dobie's Dilemma, Lottery President and Another Way.
Dobie Pokorny spends his late twenties bouncing between temp jobs in Los Angeles law firms and the gravitational pull of a cult member named Venelia. When that ends badly, he bolts to Kuala Lumpur, where he's swept into the orbit of Riva, a secret-agent-in-training, and her handler, Serge.
When that ends badly, Dobie lands in Nashville and marries Cori (a Riva look‑alike). She's nothing like Riva, but that's the least of his worries once he and newfound ally Darla turn whistleblower against their employer, LeHavre Industries. Shockingly, that ends badly too.
By his mid‑thirties, Dobie retreats to his hometown of Louisville, wins the lottery, and somehow ends up running for president with his brother Shane, his father Rudy, and his new girlfriend Glynnis by his side. It ends spectacularly badly.
So Dobie does the only sensible thing left: he writes a manifesto, hits the road on a speaking tour, and tries to make sense of the universe. The universe -- or at least its representative, a small blue alien named Semmy -- is not helpful. Along the way he meets Kaylie -- the first person who actually fits -- while being pursued by Colonel Charonne's enforcer, Major Watson.
And for once, it doesn't end badly. Mostly.
