Screw "economies of scale!" As I've said before, this country needs a new (or maybe just an enforced) Sherman Antitrust Act that will limit the size, influence and control of any one corporation.
More companies mean more jobs, and most importantly, more competition. Even the "elites" (at least pretend to) agree that competition is good. More companies mean more decision-makers; more HR jobs; more IT jobs; more customer-facing jobs; even more QA people to correct my punctuation and grammar! :) It might appear less efficient to some ... but in fact it's MUCH healthier in the long run because more people would then be productive members of society, earning money that they can circulate into the economy.
