Woo-hoo! I took the old cookie (coin) jar to the Coinstar machine today (11.9% “fee”, are you kidding me?!). I came away with $93.54! It rejected a few coins, repeatedly, forcing me to just pocket them. One of those was an elongated penny someone had thrown in the jar (I'm guessing Elizabeth). Another couple of the rejects were dimes that, even picking them up I could tell they “weren't right.” Turns out they're silver! Minted in 1948. At the going rate, they're worth $1.14 each! That's 11.4 times their face value (FYI, if you're no good at math)! If I ran Coinstar, I'd set the machine to NOT reject coins like that. But that's just me.
